Guidance

Thumbnail of Parenting Plans - Putting your children first: A guide for separating parentsThis product is created by DCSF

This publication looks at the issues parents and relatives need to consider when making contact arrangements after a parental separation, and it offers advice on family relationships, supporting the children, and what to do when they are finding it difficult to agree.

Parents can use the plan to decide, together with their children where practical, what arrangements will work best for them. The plans also include a set of case examples which indicate how parents might resolve their differences, outline what parental responsibility is and who has it.

The document also provides a comprehensive list of agencies and organisations where adults can find further advice and help.
