Musical Futures: Teachers Resource

Guidance

Thumbnail of Musical Futures: Teachers ResourceThis product is created by DFES

Music learning takes places in so many differing contexts and locations outside the classroom, that a truly personalised and enriched experience demands a more collaborative approach. This resource helps to deliver co-ordinated music learning, as advocated by the Music Manifesto.

The pack consists of four sections: Introduction to personalising music learning; classroom resource for informal music learning at key stage 3 (with CDROM and audio CD); the whole curriculum approach - inclusive music practice at year 8 (with DVDROM) and a guide to personalising extra-curricular music for 11-18 year olds.

Practices featured include the use of other 'music leaders' within the classroom and after-schools projects led by community musicians or music services. Musical Futures brings extra-curricular approaches into the formal curriculum.

A key theme running across the Teachers’ Resource Pack is collaboration between schools, music services and non-formal sector organisations.
