This month the Primary National Strategy are launching ‘Letters and Sounds’ which gives further guidance on the teaching of phonics as set out in the renewed literacy framework. ‘Letters and Sounds’ replaces previous National Strategies publications such as Playing with Sounds and Progression in Phonics.

‘Letters and Sounds’ is a free, high-quality phonics programme comprising of 2 booklets and a DVD, providing exemplar sessions for each phase with short clips to demonstrate effective practice.

The DfES wants to ensure that all schools have access to ‘Letters and Sounds’ as soon as possible. Therefore the DfES plan to send five copies of ‘Letters and Sounds’ to every primary school during May, free of charge. However, if you would prefer not receive the hard copies, please follow the link below and complete the form by 9 May ’07.
